Abuse and Trauma
Have you experienced abuse or trauma in your life? Whether it was yesterday or as a child, the long-lasting repercussions can affect you for weeks, months, and years. It is therefore important that you seek professional counselling if you have experienced any type of abuse or trauma.
Whatever abuse or trauma you have suffered is part of you and will be with you forever, however, you can learn to deal with it and live with it. I have always believed that while you can’t change your past and what happened to you, you CAN move through the pain and change your future.
As a survivor myself, I understand how difficult it can be to deal with, but I also know that with the right help, you can move through each negative experience and come out the other side. Whatever your personal experience, to be where you are now showing you have strength and resilience and that you have the ability to survive and thrive.
Types of Abuse
Can involve the hitting, shaking, poisoning, burning, scalding, drowning, suffocating, or other physical harm to a child or adult.
Is any unwanted sexual behavior towards a child or adult, whether or not the child or adult is aware of what is happening. It can happen in public, private or institutional settings and can be carried out by strangers or people known to the person such as family members, partners, friends, neighbors or work colleagues.
This can involve name-calling, insults, yelling, isolation from family and friends, being blamed for everything, threats, being told you are stupid.
This can involve controlling or withholding your money or not allowing you to earn your own money.
Is the single or repeated act which causes harm or distress to an older person. It may involve physical violence, sexual abuse, financial abuse, neglect, abandonment, or psychological abuse.
It takes courage to speak out about being abused. While I specialise in childhood sexual abuse, I can help you with all forms of abuse and trauma.
